NerG’s heritage is in biomass. We have been installing biomass boilers since 2013, so we understand the technical requirements of designing, installing and servicing of biomass heating systems.  We have installed boilers of all sizes, from 15kW to in excess of 1MW and have worked with many clients to improve their energy efficiency through biomass. Belton House Project

NerG began work recently installing a new biomass facility and pipe work into Belton House, a lovely National Trust property located in Grantham. The new biomass boiler system will provide renewable heating to 16 historic buildings onsite.

NERG’S PREFERRED BOILERS

NerG’s preferred biomass boilers to install are Froling, ETA and Jutsen, the reasons for which can be seen below. However, if you would like us to fit a different biomass boiler, we would be more than happy to do so as we have experience in installing a wide range of manufacturers.

Froling Boiler

FROLING

Froling, based in Austria, have been building biomass boilers since the 1960’s. They have built up a wealth of knowledge of burning and the effects on materials, which has enabled them to produce very reliable boilers. Froling insists that any installing company is properly trained. All of our installation engineers have been to their training centre at their factory in Austria.

Froling manufacture all components of their boilers themselves and are passionate about their products. If NerG needs any technical support then we can guarantee that their technical team will be able to solve the problem. Froling also stocks a large amount of parts, which can often be delivered next day.

ETA biomass boiler

ETA

Made in Austria near Grieskirchen, ETA was originally set up in 1998 and make a range of wood pellet, log and wood chip boilers. NerG have visited their factory, which is assembly only. Major fabrications for ETA are made by local companies. The ETA boilers started small, aiming at the domestic market, and have over the years developed large boilers for the commercial market.

With UK distribution supplied by Innasol, NerG have a direct support and spare parts channel, which are able to deliver most parts next day. The worst case we have experienced was a 3 day delay, which was for a complete conveyor system to replace one that had been damaged. Our experience of ETA and their technical support has generally been very good and their support of professional companies, like NerG, is one of the reasons why we choose ETA as a preferred boiler.

Jutsen

JUSTSEN

Changes in the funding of renewables and encouragement to reduce use of carbon based fossil fuels means that heating systems are increasing is size.  NerG have installed many systems in excess of 1MW in capacity.  Moving to larger systems requires a different approach on boilers.  The technology to produce 250 Kilowatts is very different to producing 6 Megawatts.

We looked for a supplier with

  • a long track record in producing boilers in this range
  • experience of handling large fuel quantities
  • experience of combustion of alternative fuels – not just woodchip.
  • a technical team that are available, knowledgeable and understandable.

The investment in large heating systems is considerable and requires a high level of trust and a proven track record both in the installer and in the equipment supplier.  Justsen are a Danish family owned business.  There whole business is conducted in English, all the drawings are in English and we are dealing directly not just with managers, but also the owners of the company.
They have a huge experience in the manufacture of biomass boilers which are used all around the world, but their growth came from the heating networks that are installed in hundreds of Danish villages.
We are very proud to work with such a knowledgeable and professional company.  It is a pleasure to offer customers the opportunity to visit both their factory and a number of their installs in Denmark.

HOW BIOMASS BOILERS WORK

Biomass is any organic material that comes from plants and animals. Biomass is a renewable source of energy and when burned, the energy contained within it is released as heat. This heat can then be used to heat buildings, used in industrial processes or can be used to generate electricity. Typical biomass fuels can include wood chip, wood pellets, straw & food by-products, though others fuels like waste products, can be used also.

  • 1) Woodchip is fed into a combustion chamber where it is ignited at a temperature of 600°C to release gases.

  • 2) The hot gases are then re-burned which generates temperatures of 1200°C

  • 3) The hot air and gases then pass through a heat exchanger which transfers the heat to the water, which can be used for central heating.

  • 4) Excess heat is stored in a thermal tank called a buffer tank.
